Reading Text with Jaws in most Programs
Methods of reading text varies slightly between applications. The following refers to reading in MS Word.
Refer to the relevant program notes for differences in reading in that particular program.
Shortcuts in order of common way of reading
Control key. Stop speech.
Insert and down arrow. Resume say all after stop speech.
Page up. when in say all mode will increase speech rate, otherwise Alt Control Page up.
Page down. when in say all mode will decrease speech rate, otherwise Alt Control Page down.
Insert Tab. Reads current item again.
Insert and right arrow. Say next word.
Insert and left arrow. Say previous word.
Insert and numpad 5. Say current word.
Insert and numpad 5. pressed twice quickly spells out current word - to stop release insert key.
Insert and up arrow. Read from start of line.
Down arrow. Say next line.
Up arrow. Say previous line.
Numpad 5. Say current character.
Right arrow. Say next character.
Left arrow. Say previous character.
Alt and down arrow. Saynext sentence.
Alt and up arrow. Sayprevious sentence.
Alt and numeric keypad 5. Say current sentence.
Control and numpad 5. Say current paragraph.
Control and down arrow. Read next paragraph.
Control up arrow. Read previous paragraph.
Control Page up. Go to previous page.
Control Page down. Go to next page.
Control + Insert + down arrow. Start Skim Reading.
Jaws reading shortcuts grouped by key groups – may be easier to remember.
Some people find it easier to remember the keystrokes if they are grouped in the following order.
Basic Numeric keypad keys on their own
Numpad 5. Reads current character.
right arrow (Numpad 6). Reads next character.
left arrow (Numpad 4). Reads previous character.
Downarrow (Numpad 2). reads line by line (not complete sentences).
Uparrow (Numpad 8). Read previous line .
Home (Numpad 7). Moves cursor to start of line.
End (Numpad 1). Moves cursor to end of line.
PageUp (Numpad 9). Moves cursor to start of screen.
Pagedown (Numpad 3). Moves cursor to bottom of screen.
Insert Key with numeric keypad keys
Insert Numpad 2, down arrow. Start Reading, press Ctrl to stop, Insert Downarrow to resume.
Insert Numpad 5. Read current word (sometimes reads space if no word ahead).
Insert Numpad 5. pressed twice quickly will spell out current word (press Insert) to stop.
Insert numpad 4, Left arrow. Reads previous word.
Insert numpad 6, right arrow. Reads next word.
Insert numpad 3, Page down. Reads status bar.
Alt key with numeric keypad keys
Alt and Numpad 5. Reads current sentence.
Alt and Uparrow. reads previous sentence.
Alt and down arrow. reads next sentence.
Control key with numeric keypad keys
Control down arrow. Read next paragraph.
Control up arrow. Read previous paragraph.
Control Page up. Go to next page.
Control Page Down. Go to previous page.
Quick Navigation Keys For Word - Only For Versions 7 and upwards
When Say all is activated you can automatically use all of the Navigation keys such as
Type P key. for next paragraph.
Type H key. for next Heading.
Type T key. for next Table.
Spacebar for next page.
Backspace. for previous page.
Insert Z. If not in Say all activates Navigation quick keys To turn off Navigation keys press Enter.
Navigation Keys in Windows Generally
Although the following are Navigation keys Jaws reads text as well as move the cursor.
Left Arrow. Moves the cursor one character to the left.
Right Arrow. Moves the cursor one character to the right.
Ctrl + left Arrow. Moves the cursor one word to the left.
Ctrl + right arrow. Moves the cursor one word to the right.
Down arrow. Moves the cursor down one line.
Up Arrow. Moves the cursor up one line.
Ctrl + Down arrow. Moves the cursor to the next paragraph.
Ctrl + Up Arrow. Moves the cursor to the previous paragraph.
End. Moves the cursor to the beginning of the line.
Home. Moves the cursor to the end of the line.
Ctrl+home. Moves the cursor to the top of the document.
Ctrl + end. Moves the cursor to end of the document.
Page Down. Scrolls down one screen.
Page up. Scrolls up one screen.
Selecting text in Windows Generally
Although not reading shortcuts Jaws reads text after it has been selected as follows:
Control A. Select all.
Shift and right arrow. Select character.
Shift and left arrow. Select previous character.
Control shift and right arrow. Select word.
Control shift and left arrow. Select previous word.
Shift end. Select current line if cursor at the start.
Control shift and end. Select from cursor to end of document.
Control Shift and Home. Select from cursor to start of document.
Control shift and down arrow. Select current paragraph.
Control shift and up arrow. Select previous paragraph.
F8. Selects, character, word, sentence, paragraph depending on the number of times you press it. Escape key cancels.

JAWS installation and activation instructions:
2. Open the newly extracted folder, go to "setup" directory inside, and run "FSOcr13.0.1512ENU.exe"
and wait for its completion. it will instal FS omny page component, and avoid downloading the same from the internet during installation,
which can be helpfull to save a lot of time and internet data.
3. Now run "J17.0.2211enu-x64.exe" to start JAWS setup program.
a. at the very first screen, simply click next to start installation, and follow the on-screen progress info.
b. if your system ask to restart, go on and let it do!. The setup will automaticly resume after restart.
c. When the JAWS setup dialog appears, again click "next" to continue from the first setup screen.
d. press the space bar on "i accept" checkbox, for license agreement, at the second screen, and then choose "next.
e. Choose "typical" as the installation type at the third screen.
f. Click install to begin the installation on the fourth screen. then wait for sometime to complete.
g. At the end of installation, Click finish to exit the installer. If the system again ask for restart, don't worry, let it go for it!
4. After installation, the JAWS will launched and ask to activate the product. But it is necessary to close the JAWS before cracking.
choose "run as demo" to continue, and then exit the program completely by pressing insurt+f4.
5. Go to "crack-x64" folder and copy the file "jfw.exe", and paste it to the JAWS installation directory
typically found at C:\program files\freedom scientific\JAWS\17.0 and replace the origenal file there.
6. From the same "crack-x64" folder, right-click on "myCertificate.cer" and choose "install certificates". This will launch "certificates import wizard".
7. Choose the second option "local machine" from the first screen of the wizard, and click next to continue.
8. At the secodn screen, once again choose the second option "place all certificates in the following store", and click brows. A new window will pop-up.
9. In "select certificates store" window, again select the second option "trusted root certification authority", from the
available treeview, and click ok to confirm the selection.
10. Now hit next to continue the wizard.
11. At the last screen, a summery will tell you about your selection made in the previous steps. Simply click on "finish" to complete the process.
12. In just few seconds, your system will tell you that "the import is successfull". Click "ok" to close the popped-up message, and then start JAWS by clicking its icon on the desktop.
